After crowning Ben Pridmore the new and old World Memory Champion at the 18th World Memory Championship in London, the Chinese team handed out a beautiful booklet with a preview of the upcoming World Memory Championship 2010 in Guangzhou. Ladies and Gentlemen:
Guangzhou is hosting the 19th World Memory Championship in 2010. On behalf of the organizing committee, I am inviting all the memory sport players around the world to compete in China. Welcome to Guangzhou!
As the most influential memory competition in the world, World Memory Championship is a symbol of pursuing advanced civilizations and a channel of interculture communication. For all these years, we have been dedicated to bringing such an event to China, hoping to promote the inter-cultural communication between China and other countries. Hosting such an event is an upmost honor. We are fully prepared and are willing to promise you a by far the most impressive World Memory Championship. We are confident and capable of making this happen. We will try our best to treat you with an amazing tour in China. I am sure that you will be impressed.

The Bidding Process
March 5th, 2008
The 2010 World Memory Championship Organizing Committee was set up in Guangzhou. The Communist Youth League Central and the CYL Guangzhou committee etc have specifically showed their support for the bidding of such an event.
Nov. 2008
The bidding committee tried their best to prepare the bidding report. It took 3 months for the field trip, research and writing of an elaborate report which focuses on the general situation of both China and Guangzhou, the schedule of the contest, the system and special service.
Nov. 20th, 2008
19th World Memory Championship Organizing Committee was informed by the WMCS that her bidding report totally fit the requirements. Therefore, as one of the candidate bidding city, Guangzhou from China, would be joining Tokyo from Japan and London from England in the final.
Aug. 24th, 2009
Tony Buzan, the founder of the World Memory Championships, and assessment team officials arrived at Guangzhou. They inspected the facilities, conditions, and the organizing stage for the last time.
Aug. 25th, 2009
The 19th World Memory Championship bidding declaration/ press conference was held in Guangzhou Baiyun International Convention Center. New Mind Education Group gave an elaborate declaration to the assessment team; once again it showed the wishes to host such an event and the determination to make it better.

Tony Buzan, the founder of the World Memory Championship, announced that Guangzhou won the bid to host the 19th World Memory Championship in 2010, and the organizer is New Mind Education Group.

Company Profile
The organizer of the 19th World Memory Championship is Guangdong New Mind Education Group. New Mind Education Group (NME) is a training organization that focuses on teenagers’ memory development and professional education, which owns a high reputation as “the leading brand of memory education in China”.
New Mind education is the most professional and authorative memory training organization established by Mr. Lin Chuxu, who won the title of “The 1st China Education Management Science Figure” and is the promoter of education with Chinese characteristics. He brings the world –leading memory theories, particular adopts advanced marketing strategies, and he is dedicated to renovating unique educational methods.
New Mind memory education is based on a system research and analysis of western education. It is correlated to the Chinese traits and habits. Inventing a new technology can help Chinese students’ intellectual development. At the same time, they have done many experiments on intellectual development and left and right brain balance training, then finally they have invented a new technology called “New Mind Memory Brain Pictures”. It is a breakthrough in this field and thus is widely applied.
Achievements
NME is the first organization to introduce the World Memory Championship to China. NME sent 7 players to attend the 16th World Memory Championship in Bahrain, and won two gold, four silver and one bronze medal. In the total result, they ranked 2nd. Six of seven players got the title “Grand Master of Memory”. The remarkable achievement amazed the world, signifying that Chinese has made enormous progress in the World Memory Championship. At the 17th World Memory Championship held in 2008, the NME players representing China have got an excellent result with one gold medal, three silver medals and one bronze medal, being placed world No. 3. The players Theng Caiquan and Yuan Wenkui who attended this match for the first time got the title of “Grand Master of Memory”. The NME principal lecturer Guo Chuanwei ranked the 4th in the individual total score. Su Ruiqiao ranked the 7th, and both of them received a widely acclaim. Until now, NME has cultivated ten Grand Memory Masters.
In 2008, NME received a reputation of “The 5th China’s 10 Most Influential Brand”. Zhu Xinlan, the CEO of NME was awarded “Leader of China’s Brand Building Industry”.

China
The People’s Republic of China is the largest country in East Asia, imbedded with ancient peoples and time-honored civilizations. China is a member of the United Nations, WTO, APEC, the East Asia Summit and the Shanghai Cooperation Organizations. China is one of the world fastest growing economies, third of the GDP in the world. In recent years, the Chinese government pays more and more attention to the development of sports and education, also focusing on the improvement of the national quality.
Guangzhou
Being the political, economic and cultural center, Guangzhou is the capital of Canton. It is located in the southeastern of Canton and in the northern margin of the Pearl River Delta, near the South China Sea, adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao. It is the central city of southern China, a gateway connected to the world. Being one of the earliest trading ports, Guangzhou has been the city of 2,200 years. Since the Han (206 BC to 220 BC) and Tang Dynasty (AD 618 to AD 907 years), Guangzhou has been the departure port of the “Marine Silk Road”. Being the hotbed of modern Chinese revolution, Guangzhou is well known for its “First in the World” spirit. It is inspired many historical figures like Kang Youwei, Liang Qichao, Hong Xiuquan, Sun Zhongshan etc.
The Economy of Guangzhou
Being the foremost position of china’s reform and opening, Guangzhou, a city of 2000 years of liberal trading, has been a leading commercial harbor in China. With the implementation of the reform and opening policy, the economy of Guangzhou has been developing vigorously and has made tremendous achievements. Since 1992, the comprehensive strength of Guangzhou has risen to No. 3 in the 10 mega city of China. Guangzhou has gained rapid development in the secondary and tertiary industries. The city has been through comprehensive coordinating development phase. In the past 20 years, the economy of Guangzhou has grown at a remarkable rate, averaging close to 14% per annum.
The Culture of Guangzhou
Guangzhou is the center of China’s Canton culture. Known as the “love peas of southland”, Cantonese opera has a unique feature and is popular in Canton, HK, Macao and even Southeast. It originates from Guangzhou and the Pearl River Delta. Blending with local ballad and folk rhyme, Cantonese music is the essence of central plain classic, southern Yangzi ditty and Kun opera. Lingnan school of painting is one of the Chinese modern art schools. Canton architecture, Canton pottery and Canton embroidery are distinguished globally. As we are familiar with saying “eating in Guangzhou”, Canton cuisine is renowned for its thousands of recipes.
Recreation and Sports
Guangzhou is a city of sports, ranking third in the domestic sports events. The government of Guangzhou is very attentive to the improvement of its residents and community sports activities. It organizes various kinds of events, such as walking race, dragon boat race, crossing Pearl River, hiking, etc. It is equipped with modern facilities. Guangzhou has a rich experience in hosting national and international sports games. International Men’s Basketball Tournament, International Female Professional Tennis Open Championship, World Wrestling Championship, Thomas Cup Badminton Championship, etc are held here. Guangzhou will be hosting the 2010 Asian Games and the 49th Table Tennis Team Tournament.
Transportation
Here in Guangzhou, we have national major airline companies like China Southern Airlines, Air China, China Eastern Airlines etc. and some international airlines. Annually it handles 1 billion customers and 2.5 million tons of cargo. Guangzhou has built the interurban highways, metro and highway bridges. There are a number of ports and harbors in the Economic Development Zone of Guangzhou, handling a great deal of imports and exports.
Climate and Geographic Conditions
Being in the subtropical monsoonal climate, people in Guangzhou would not experience extreme heat and severe cold. Abounded with rain, the city is perennial evergreen. The average temperature here is 22.8°C and the humidity is 68%. Guangzhou has conducted landscaping projects to upgrade the city. It has improved the ecosystem of the parks and built a network yet multi-layer system. In order to improve the quality of the air, Guangzhou has effectively controlled the sulphur dioxide emissions. Meanwhile, a “eliminate secondary industry and promote tertiary third industry” policy is implemented. Guangzhou is awarded “China’s Best Living Environment” in a water concerned international conference in 2006.
